2. Remove Sink Strainer Locknut: Use specialized channel-type pliers or a spanner wrench to break loose the seized locknut underneath the basin.
3. Clean Sink & Strainer Recess: Thoroughly scrape away old, hardened plumber’s putty, rust deposits, and debris from both top and bottom sink surfaces to ensure a clean mating face.
4. Apply Plumber’s Putty: Roll a fresh, uniform rope of high-grade plumber’s putty (or silicone gasket where applicable) and press it firmly into the underside of the new strainer flange.
5. Set Strainer & Attach Locknut: Seat the new metal body into the sink opening, install the rubber friction washer underneath, and thread on the heavy-duty locknut, tightening it securely without over-torquing.
6. Reattach Drain Pipe Tailpiece: Reinstall the tailpiece using fresh flanged washers and secure all slip-joint nuts to complete the drain circuit.
7. Remove Excess Putty & Leak Test: Carefully trim away squeezed-out excess putty from the top rim, seal the basin, fill it completely with water, and perform a high-volume drop test to guarantee zero leaks.
