Here’s how we fixed the problem and got the sink working efficiently again.

Client’s Problem

After years of use, the sink began leaking between its strainer. To fix this problem we had to remove and reinstall it again.

Service

The strainer on a kitchen sink provides a waterproof connection between the sink and drain pipe. Kitchen strain is a metal sieve that filters foreign particles in the water. It is also called tub stopper because it prevents small objects (earrings, rings), hair, cocktail forks and knives, shot gasses, small jar lids from getting into the pipes.

Sink strainer also serves to trap food to prevent it from clogging the drain. It is necessary to monitor how tightly the strainer is attached to the pipe and how worn it is. Careless attitude to it can lead to leaks and the formation of large blockages in the pipe.

Solution from Almco Plumbing

We have done the following work:

  1. Remove drain pipe tailpiece
  2. Remove sink strainer lock nut
  3. Clean sink and strainer
  4. Apply plumber’s putty to sink
  5. Attach locknut to strainer
  6. Reattach drain pipe tailpiece
  7. Remove excess plumber’s putty from sink

As a result, we installed a new sink strainer for the client. It will serve as a reliable filter and protect pipes from clogging.

Replacing the leaky kitchen sink basket strainer by yourself can take from 1 to 2 hours. It requires special materials such as plumber’s putty and channel-type pliers. At the same time, improper replacement of the strainer can aggravate leaks and accelerate the process of clogging pipes. If your strainer is worn out, book the services of our plumbers.

Regular maintenance and timely replacement of sink strainers is essential to maintaining a clean and efficient kitchen environment. Neglecting this component can lead to leaks, clogs and compromised sanitation.

Review by Michael Whitehead

Today was the third time that I have called Almco for plumbing repairs and each time they have come, they have done so quickly, efficiently, and with the friendliest staff. The first plumbing issue that I had was for a leaky kitchen sink—the second issue was a clogged drain in the bathtub—and the third was to replace a toilet that was leaking at the tank bolts. They always made me a priority and came out quickly. They communicated the costs to me up front so that there were no surprises and they followed up afterward to make sure everything was in good order. I would highly recommend Almco to anybody that is in need of plumbing repairs.
